-
How Does The Handicap System Work?
-
If a player has an established SGT handicap (from participating in a prior league or a league tracked in that system at another facility), that handicap will be used for this league unless it is determined by the Pursuit that using their on-course handicap is more appropriate
-
If a player DOES NOT have an SGT handicap established, but keeps a handicap using the USGA handicap GHIN system or another on-course handicap tracking app
-
Individuals will be allocated 70% of their handicap for purposes of the league, rounded to the nearest integer (in general, indoor handicaps are 25-30% lower than outdoor handicaps)
-
Scramble teams will also be allocated 70% of their scramble team handicap for purposes of the league, rounded to the nearedst integer, which the USGA calculates as follows:
-
((Lower Handicap * 65%) + (Higher Handicap * 35%))/2
-
Example:
-
Player 1 has a 12 handicap
-
Player 2 has an 18 handicap
-
((12 * .65) + (18 * .35))/2 = 7.05
-
League Handicap = 7.05 * 70% = 4.94 = 5 handicap
-
-
-
-
If a player has no handicap, they will be allocated 0 strokes for the first 4 weeks of the competition, and once they have completed their first 4 rounds, they will be assigned a handicap that will be retroactively applied to their first 4 weeks
-
At any point during the league season, Pursuit management may determine that it is appropriate to adjust a player or team’s handicap in either direction based on their play in the league leading up to that point to keep the competition fair, and this adjustment may be applied RETROACTIVELY if circumstances dictate that is appropriate
-
For example, in the first iteration of our league, one team that had a handicap on the higher end of the spectrum posted scores that had them finishing in first place in all of the first 4 weeks. Their handicap was adjusted retroactively by 3 strokes, which better represented their actual skill level, and rather than finishing in first in all 4 weeks, they finished in 3rd, 2nd, 1st and 1st.
